The BVI prisoners housed at the Bordelais Correctional Facility in St Lucia was slated to return in March 2018.
BVI sent 21 prisoners, to be housed in St Lucia as a result of extensive damage done to the Balsam Ghut prison by Hurricane Irma and Maria.
To date, there is still no conclusion as to when they will return because repair work to improve security at the prison is still in progress.
Augustus Jaspert, BVI Governor, reported that there is ongoing commitment with St Lucian authorities and BVI prison authorities to get the prisoners back as soon as possible. The Governor also said that the repatriation effort would have to be executed in phases.
