2018 Lawòz Celebrations in the Community of Laborie will be launched on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Laborie Market Square with a Panel Discussion for members, youth participants and other interested persons from Laborie and environs.
The activity has been organised to educate participants, especially youth on the various characters portrayed in the society, their roles; and the rituals practiced by members. It will also provide a forum for dialogue on the future path for the festival.
The activity is part of a larger collaboration between the Laborie La Rose Society, The Laborie Cooperative Credit Union and the Laborie Development Foundation based on the theme; Climate Change is Real; Jan Lawòz pwan douvan avan douvan pwan. Organisers subscribe to the notion that the flower festivals need to reflect changes in societal structure and action. This collaboration seeks to demonstrate this by using cultural expression to transmit messages to youth participants, members and the wider community thereby promoting social, environmental and economic resilience.
The panel discussion will be followed by a Practical Working Session on Saturday, August 4 from 5pm-7pm and a Séans from 8pm onwards. The venue for both activities is the Laborie Cultural Hall.
As has been customary over the last 3 years, the community celebrations will climax with a Gwan Spètak Lawòz at the Laborie Market Square on the afternoon of Sunday, August 26, 2018.
