Following Wednesday’s fatal shooting during the Carnival Jour Ouvert, there were doubts as to whether or not the Gros Islet Carnival would take place.
A man of a Conway address was shot dead by police and three others were nursing injuries. It is alleged that the Conway man opened fire hitting persons and was pursued by the police.
As a measure of precaution the police cancelled the Carnival. However, the Gros Islet Constituency Council and the Member of Parliament for Gros Islet, Lenard Montoute, met with the police to negotiate continuing with the day’s activities.
The police gave the go ahead and the planned activities for the day was carried out in a peaceful manner.
