On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.
For the goals to be reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, the private sector, civil society and young people. In the lead up to the Caribbean Youth Conference (Saint Lucia) 2018, the Saint Lucia National Youth Council, in collaboration with the Department of Sustainable Development, officially launches the ‘758 Global Goals Challenge’, to inspire creativity from young Saint Lucians in tackling some of the world’s biggest issues.
The Challenge is sponsored in part by the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Ltd (LUCELEC).
Young people between the ages of 13 and 29 will be invited to submit proposals on community based initiatives that surround any one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Projects must be based in the community of the applicant, and must be practical. Projects may be action based, advocacy based or both. Proposals must include a written and video component.
The top five (5) submissions will be shortlisted, and individuals will be allowed to present their projects at the Caribbean Youth Conference (Saint Lucia) 2018. Winners will be announced during the annual National Youth Awards Ceremony, and will receive technical assistance to execute their initiatives. Deadline for video submission is April 20th, 2018, with videos set to be shared in observance of World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 21st. Applicants will then have a deadline of April 24th to submit the written component to their proposals. Applications can be submitted by individuals and groups
